This course will present students with an introduction to
a sole proprietorship operating as a service business. Students will
learn about the basic accounting equation, transaction analysis, manual

closing entries. This course emphasizes a multi-column journal
approach. |

This course will present students with a corporation
operating as a merchandising business. Concepts learned in Bookkeeping
1 will be reinforced. Students will learn about an expanded Chart of
Accounts, purchases of merchandise, payroll, stocks and stockholders,
notes receivable and payable, retained earnings, dividends,
depreciation, and corporate income tax. This course emphasizes a

In this introductory course, students will review
mathematical principles beginning with our numbering system, fractions,
basic algebra, and percents. Forms of measurement, such as our

In this course, students will consider ways of being
“good stewards” of that with which God blesses them. They will be shown
the high cost of borrowing money and financing major purchases such as

addition, matters of insurance (automobile, life, and health) will be

Students will learn about some of the
financial forms that churches must prepare and/or keep on file, such as

will be taught about some of the records that must be kept, and the
length of time for archiving these records. Students will also be
informed of some serious matters that must be taken into consideration
by a local church when choosing workers, volunteers, or bus/van drivers. |

Students in this course will learn to use the QuickBooks
Simple Start program. They will begin by creating a chart of accounts,
entering customer and vendor data, and setting up a pertinent items
list. Students also will learn such functions as recording sales
invoices, purchase invoices, cash payments, credit memos, bills, as well
as making journal entries and writing checks. In addition, they will
learn to generate reports that are necessary for decision-making and
administrative purposes. The student will also be taught how to handle
the following common problems or challenges: determining correcting entries,
voiding checks, finding human errors, and handling payroll entry without

During the student’s second year,
he/she will be required to complete 64-68 hours of field experience in
one or more of the offices of the Massillon Baptist Temple ministries
(or, occasionally, at the student’s home church). This may be done two
(2) hours per week for two semesters, or four (4) hours per week for one
semester. This course will allow a student to participate in the actual
day-to-day operations of a church and its various ministries, under the
tutelage of experienced office workers. |

Students will be taught basic spreadsheet skills
utilizing Microsoft Excel, and will learn how to create, edit, format,

addition, students will be introduced to many of Excel’s built in
features—such as AutoCalculate, AutoFormat, formulas and functions.
They will also learn to use and manipulate multiple worksheets.

Students will learn to prepare presentations using
Microsoft PowerPoint, both from scratch and from the built-in design

slide. In addition to the textbook projects, students will have the
opportunity of creating their own presentations from scratch, as their

In this course, students will be introduced to desktop
publishing using Microsoft Publisher. They will be taught how to
prepare various types of publications—flyers, newsletters, tri-folds,
and other business forms. Also, students will learn how to import text,
add and resize graphics, create columns, insert objects, and export
publications in PDF format. Basic desktop publishing principles—such as
the use of pull quotes—will be presented in order to create an
eye-pleasing document that grabs the reader’s attention.

Word Art. In addition, students will learn how to work with tables in

document. Much attention will be paid to proofreading.

newsletters, bulletins, etc. Proofreading skills will also be

also be in charge of photography. |
